The Black Cobra

Some pieces are found; this one was recognized. The moment Hubert pulled this timber from the mountainside, the form was already there — a serpent rising from the ground, body arched, hood flared, frozen a breath before the strike. The fire had done the sculpting; all that remained was to reveal it.

The body carries a deep, lacquered char, black and textured like scales, while the flared crown opens into pale golden grain — the cobra's hood, spread wide. The S-curve of the piece changes with your position in the room: coiled from one angle, striking from another. It's the kind of form that makes people circle it before they say anything.

Mounted on a custom round steel base, Black Cobra stands as a pure sculptural statement — for an entry moment, a study, or a collector's corner where one dramatic silhouette is all the room needs. Shaped by lightning, finished by hand, never repeated.
